Saturday Morning Routine - Doris Jean Style

If you have read this blog from the beginning, you know that I lived in a trailer park for the first 12 years of my life.  I didn't mention that Doris Jean was bougie and dressed that trailer to the nines. Home Interior was the thing back then and I believe my mom had every brass piece and figurine they sold.  What comes with all of those things is someone to dust them.  That someone was me. We would start off with breakfast, usually silver-dollar pancakes with King syrup and some chocolate or strawberry milk.  I would turn on Saturday morning cartoons and I was off to dusting.  I remember she had these two frog figurines and they had private parts.  I would dust them but felt so weird doing it.  As I got older I thought it was hysterical and it just made me laugh more than anything.  I wish I knew where those frogs ended up when she passed away.  I definitely would have kept them.

When Sean and I got married, I carried on the tradition of Saturday morning cleaning for years.  I still wake up on a Saturday and feel like I have to clean the entire house from top to bottom.  Of course, I don't do that religiously but I did wake up this morning vacuumed the main floor, cleaned up the bathroom, did 3 loads of laundry, wiped the kitchen down a bit, and cleaned out the refrigerator. I stopped there. I don't feel the urgency as Doris Jean did but I do feel a certain kind of way when my house is reaching a certain level of meh.

As in the bible, Doris Jean made sure Sundays were a day of rest.  Often times we would have Sunday dinners with my family. Those were such memorable fun times.  Sundays still represent a day of rest for me.  I am not doing a whole lot on Sundays.  With as busy as we all are these days, taking that day to rest and rejuvenate is crucial for our mental health.

It is interesting to me how much we carry from our childhood into our adult lives. Doris Jean created so many fun memories for me, even when I was dusting 72 pieces of Home Interior. Be BOLD!
